“If I define you you disappear” is a unique project, designed for Plateforme Danse 2015. Hélène Taddei Lawson has brought island dancers together to express each one's choreographic identities.
Soli echo each other, like individual destinies, like the characters of John Dos Passos or Alejandro Iñárritu to make sense in a collective movement, the last piece of the puzzle.
Tommy Lawson's sound creation takes a radiophonic form in the form of interviews, testimonies, stories, natural and composed soundscapes, in the service of a narrative that deconstructs the theme of identity in its plural dimension.
The title of the piece is borrowed from Carolyn Carlson's poem “I know who you are but if I define you, you disappear”.

“If I define you you disappear “: soli in resonance and in response to each other, a choreographic score questioning the individual and the collective, an artistic intention developing a sensitive reflection on the theme of the identity deployed in its pluralities.
A piece - to our delight - a wink to Carolyn Carlson, inspired by one of her poems, and a moving tribute to Pina Bausch, without whom contemporary dance would not be what it is!
